VoA New World at 1440*900
|
|
NEW WORLD - GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The aim of New World is to keep the look as close to new default as possible, retaining only the custom pieces and functionality I prefer. As a result, all of the pieces here can be used independently or ignored if not wanted - and there are very few custom graphics and animations.
New World contains the following changes:
(new items for Rain of Fear in bold)
A detailed player window showing experience gauges and stats. The "attacking" indicator is a flashing border around the combat state indicator. The rest state timer appears INSIDE the combat state indicator when appropriate.
Horizontal 5*2 10-slot extended target window, with what I consider to be much nicer role icons. If you don't like my role icons, simply delete the targetrole.tga file!
Aggro fields added to: target window, player window, group window, extended target window.
Mini potion belt and 8-slot bandolier.
Smaller, wide format inventory. Added currency toggle in alt currencies page for currencies you don't own
Combat Ability window with no combat abilities in it! (place them in hotbars wherever they go with AAs etc)
Horizontal, numbered buff bars running up to 42 on main buffs and 20 in short duration buffs.
Target window with integrated HoTT gauge (this uses targetbox graphic file). Have added a fake titlebar handle so you can still move it around, but made it resizable so you can see as much target buffs as you want - or none). I have made the target buff icons very, very small - you can see vaguely what they are, and then hover over them to see the description.
Voice chat icons! Also, a custom, small voice bar.
Return of the oval spell cartouche! If you have got used to the boxy octagons, delete the window_pieces02.tga file
New Group window with hp, mana, endurance and pet bars for all group members, plus voice chat and group roles compatibility.
Aura window made small and fixed - deep enough to show 2 auras for chanters and clerics.
Smaller Mercenary window - reworked so the useful buttons are closer together, and the functions of "set owner" and "dismiss" renamed to "transfer" and "You're fired!" for clarity.
Smaller selector window with only a few items on it. (Notes in the file for expanding it if you want to).
Spell casting window reshaped cos so many spells have such long names these days! If you find it a bit obtrusive, try making it transparent at its normal alpha level. Or delete it of course.
Take what you want to use, discard the rest!
Instructions for use: Wait for patch to be done. Delete your current NewWorld folder and extract the zip file into your Everquest/uifiles folder. Play EQ.

It sounds like either you put this in a custom UI folder you already had in place, or it somehow wound up in a folder-inside-a-folder.
If so there may be other files in it already, and you don't want that.
I recommend you delete your custom UI folder ("New"?) completely, then unzip these files directly into [your path] EverQuest\UIFiles\New.
Remember, they shouldn't be in a folder below the "New" level, EQ only reads the files in the folder at the level directly below "UIFiles".
These files work with the current default UI, they will NOT work with other custom UIs that have not been updated for The Buried Sea, or necessarily with UIs that have a modified, for example, EQUI.xml.
If you ARE trying to mix and match custom UIs, and your other custom UI has a modified EQUI.xml, then check the order in which windows are added in the EQUI.xml. The default defines EQUI_BuffWindow.xml before EQUI_ShortDurationBuffWindow.xml, and my UI depends on that sequence being maintained in order to correctly define the background image for both bars.
Hope that helps, as I have said before, these mods are small mods to the default UI and change the absolute minimum I can get away with (I'd take away all the frilly edges in the other windows if I didn't mind needing a large custom file to maintain every time they changed the core graphics or EQUI files). The cleaner your install (and UI folder) the better, in my experience.

Oops, I forgot the one other thing that breaks UIs time and time again (this isn't for you Zhaann, just trying to keep the "it doesn't work" posts down in general ) - UI folder names must not have spaces in. EQ doesn't recognise them.
So a folder "NewWorld" is loaded as UI "NewWorld".
But a folder "New World" is seen internally by EQ as just "New" (in spite of showing as "New World" in the in-game skins list) so it doesn't load the correct folder.

Update
Will this one be updated for the most recent patches on 7-5-07?
I have been using yours for quite a while now, and recently decided to test out a few new ones and realized none of them quite stand up to the test. I would greatly GREATLY appreciate you if you did an update =-)

Re: Re: Update
ok I found out where the problem is with the mismatch xml file batch error we are getting, it has to do with the PotionBeltWnd.xml file. they changed lines 116-143, the old one was changed and lines 116-143, 228-248, 258, 274, 279 were removed from the new patch and moved. hope that helps. anyhow what i did to temporarily fix the problem was to delete the PotionBeltWnd.xml from the UI untill it can get updated, all it does it default back to the default potion window which is a bit bigger. anyhow if you want to look at the update to it I'll link it. other than those changes thats about all that I can see that was changed that is causing the problem. everything else is working perfect.
potion belt compare
anyhow here it is the comparison from old to new since patch on 7-05-07
if I knew what to change on what lines I'd try to fix it myself but not really sure where to start.

Great UI
for the most part I absolutely love this UI.... A bit overwhelming at first with how much information it encompasses and the range of ability it has. but the overall compact performance is wonderful.
Only a few suggestions though to help make it better for me personally.
I enjoy having my friend's list but with this UI to use the alt W window and choose friends list, a window with all of your bags opens up. I wish to keep that window... but really need my friend's list.
also the length of the health of target is a bit long and not necessary.
Also I never particularly like changing the icons for the spells, this is going to take some time to get used to, but if there were any way to go back and get the original icons for this UI I would appreciate it immensely

I'm not understanding what you're saying about the friends list - New World doesn't HAVE a friends window (it uses default) and certainly no window with all the bags in it. Sounds as if you have added that in from somewhere else. If you have a custom EQUI_Friends.xml file in your New World directory (which comes up as all bags), it didn't come from me. Custom windows are made by replacing the original, so if your "bags" window comes up instead of friends you can't have a friends window. To get friends window back, you can delete the custom EQUI_Friends.xml file - but then you won't have your "bags" window. As an alternative, it's possible to map a key to open all your bags at once from the options window (and one to close them as well) - which is what I do.
For the target health gauge - it's the same size as the other gauges - and if I'm playing a healer I like to see exactly how effective my heals are on a range of targets. Not going to provide a variant.
For the spell icons - this UI has none. Those should be the default spell icons, and have been since the last major revamp of the default UI. If you have any spell icons files in your New World directory, again you got them from somewhere else and if you delete them you'll get the defaults back again.
If what you want is the really old icons, I'm sure there are several solutions to restore the OLD default spell icons littered around EQ Interface, and all you have to do is merge those icon files into your New World directory. New World won't care - it was designed not to.

Great UI, but missing one thing IMHO
I LOVE the UI...
Except, that I noticed that it is missing one thing... When I am attacking something, unless I read "Auto Attack is On/Off" in my main chat window, I can't easily tell if I am activly attacking. Is this an issue with how EQ deals with the UI files now? or an oversight? or on purpose?
