Description
Elanthian Ring of Power - Animated 3D Target Indicator

By Dastinar Elanthian of Druzzil Ro

UPDATED: INCLUDES ALL FEATURES AS OF TERROR OF LUCLIN EXPANSION.

The Target Indicator has three animated parts.

The inner ring with the four arrows spins clockwise.
The middle ring has four sliders that spin counter clockwise.
The runes on top of the tribal pattern spin clockwise.

The con colors each have an eight-frame animation.
The assist marker and the four markers have a static frame.

The Free target and FreeInvalid target use the inner and middle rings and glow green and red respectively.

The background color and the glow on the runes change for each con color but the rest of the indicator remains gold.

The runes glow effect and colors have changed from the original version to make them crisper and to add the additional con color featured in The Serpent's Spine.

The band that the middle ring spins around no longer glows with the target con color. The color was removed to allow the assist marker and the target markers to appear without color bleeding when you have a marked target selected.

The assist marker has two gold bands with an orange bar between them. The tribal pattern was removed because when the marked mob was targeted the assist marker would cause distortions to the con color rune animation.

The four markers have two gold bands with a con colored bar between them, starting with red and going down to blue so that the first assist marker is red (most important), then yellow, white and finally blue. This was done to make the colors distinct and also so they are familiar with everyone as they can be used to target mobs in order of importance (for example for CC).

TO INSTALL:

First, make sure no instances of eqgame.exe are running and then extract the ZIP file to a folder of your choice. After extracting the files browse to the folder where you extracted them and copy all the files from the selected folder to your custom UI files folder located in EverQuest's 'uifiles' directory.

Currently as of TOL, that location by default is 'C:\Users\Public\Daybreak Game Company\Installed Games\EverQuest\uifiles'.

NOTE: The step below about running EQ in Administrator mode may no longer be necessary. I tested the 3D Target Ring on my PC running Windows 10 (Version 21H2 OS Build 19044.1766) with EQ installed in the default location as shown above and the 3D Target Ring works fine without administrator mode. I would suggest trying it without admin mode first and only doing the steps below to try and get it working.

Once you have copied the files, if you are running Windows 7+ make sure eqgame.exe is set to run as Administrator in the compatibility options. Launch EverQuest and if you have previously used the 3D Target Ring and a custom UI folder then the target indicator should just start working.

If you have not used a custom UI folder, go into the options (ALT-O), select 'Load UI Skin' and select the folder you installed the indicator into. Make sure you select 'Keep Your Layout' so you don't loose your current layout, then click on 'Load Skin'.

At this point the indicator should be working. If it's not try exiting EverQuest completely and reloading it.

Usually the most common issue I've experienced where it does not work is not running eqgame.exe in Administrator mode on Windows 7+ or modifying the files in the 'uifiles' folder and not restarting EverQuest. If you still have issues you can try also setting the compatibility option 'disable fullscreen optimizations' on eqgame.exe as I have read that may help. It may also be necessary to set both compatibility options on 'LaunchPad.exe' but I would only attempt that after all other options have been set on 'eqgame.exe' and EverQuest has been completely restarted.

To UNINSTALL:

If you want to remove the target indicator all you need to do is browse to the 'uifiles' folder where you installed it and delete all 'DEUI_ROP_*.tga' files and the 'TargetIndicator.ini' file and then completely restart EverQuest.

That’s about it... Enjoy!

Thumbs up Thanks!

After all these years I took a chance and added this to my UI and it's working. Very pretty!
